September 2006 – we land in Spain, on the red-hot runway of the Malaga airport, to start the new stage of our life, on the Costa del Sol. I will not bore you with the stories of our difficult beginnings, but will immediately go to the more interesting details, i.e. the birth of the AndaLUZya project!
What is AndaLUZ ya … It is a word game: Anda means go, LUZ means light and ya means now. This name was to reflect the upcoming change in my creative life and it happened …
The first was photography – an attempt to capture the delight with the local brightness, the diversity of the landscape and the Mediterranean vegetation, its colors, textures, contrasts.
The second form of my creative activity was jewelry, a combination of silver with semi-precious stones and shells, inspired by the local plants, colors and the flamenco design.
Then came the tapestries, or I should say paintings woven from the colors of the Andalusian earth and sky… Although I am a native to Łódź, a big textile industry centre, it was in Spain where I first sat down to a frame stretched by warp and began to create from various materials such as wool, linen, string or recycled fabrics.
In the meantime sketches for various projects were created during sleepless hot nights, often inspired by difficult emotions and they mostly landed in the back of the drawer, waiting for their moment … but more on that in the next post 😉
And that’s how the AndaLUZya GALLERY was created – a gallery with my Andalusian projects and works, with my illustrations and inspirations, a bit of everything that I do and what I love to do…
